A Special Event: Book Launch of “Scary Story”

You are invited to join me at a virtual event, “New Forms in World and Word”, taking place this Sunday, March 10, at 2 pm Eastern Standard Time.(Don’t forget the time change: Spring forward!) It will be a multilingual presentation via Zoom, organized by Pamenar Press, a British experimental publisher, and the launch of Scary Story, my translation of Mexican writer Alberto Chimal’s innovative, bone-chilling 2015 book Historia Siniestra (Cuadrivio, 2015).

Other authors and translators will be reading at the event: Ricardo Marc, Erín Moure, Chus Pato, and Jèssica Pujol Duran. English will be only one of the languages spoken. I think there will be something for everyone.

Scary Story is composed of two poetic narratives, originally written in brief chapters on the platform that was once called Twitter, and edited for publication as a book. An Ordinary Day is a horror story about terrible realities that lurk just beneath the apparently normal daily life in Mexico. X City tells of the decay of a society that fails to recognize the signs of its own collapse; it was written in 2014, in the weeks after the kidnapping and murder of the 43 students from Ayotzinapa Normal School, when the whole world shared in Mexico’s grief and outrage.

I hope to see you there! The cost of the ticket (5 pounds, about $6.50) will go to support this small, independent publishing house. Please RSVP by clickong on the button below.
