Debut in English: Teresa Icaza

There is a piquancy to debuting an author in English, a flavorsome feeling like no other. A sense of “mission accomplished”.

I am grateful to Editor Denise Kripper and the staff at Latin American Literature Today for their exquisite presentation of my translation from Spanish of Mexican writer Teresa Icaza‘s story, “The Aroma of Crunchiness” published alongside her original text in Spanish.

This tale, from Teresa’s luminous collection “De regreso” (Bonilla Artigas Editores) has the good fortune to appear in one of the best issues of LALT I have ever read, which includes (among other wonders) a breathtaking essay by my friend Robin Myers and a fabulous story by Yael A. Weiss.

“De regreso” [Homeward], a superb and painterly collection of twelve stories by Mexican writer Teresa Icaza, is #seekingapublisher.
