The author-translator relationship: Translating is to know another person deeply. It is beneficial for an author to work with a single translator to establish a literary dialogue and mutual understanding. Therefore, it is common to find author-translator teams who consistently collaborate. Personally, I sometimes collaborate with trusted colleagues when working on a translation.

Commissioning a sample translation of a book of around twenty to thirty pages is essential for connecting with publishers and media companies abroad and selling the English rights. I offer my expertise in creating and translating the information sheets that usually accompany such samples. I cannot promise that a title will be published in English; however, it is well known that the best results are obtained when the publisher and the translator work closely together.

My profession is literary translation, but I also have other skills: I am a liaison between the various players in the publishing industry. I often act as an unofficial agent for authors and as a talent scout for North American publishers.

I charge a fee for all aspects of my work. Rates and contracts are matters negotiated between the publisher and the translator and vary depending on the complexity of the text, the deadline, and my availability.
